The Employer

Our client is seeking a Neonatologists within the Children & Women’s Health (Child) Program at the Janeway hospital.  The Janeway hospital is located in the capital city of St. John’s and is the tertiary children’s hospital for the province, with 71 beds. The Children and Women’s Health Program provides primary, secondary and tertiary care services to children up to their 18th birthday and to women requiring obstetrical or gynecological services throughout the entire province.


The Position

The Neonatologist will be the fourth neonatologist to join the team at the Janeway Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Neonatal Intensive Care unit (NICU) at the Janeway Children’s Health Centre is the only level III NICU for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a combined Level II/III 30 bed unit with the ability to provide high frequency ventilation, iNO and therapeutic hypothermia. Our patient population is varied and includes extremely preterm infants as well as infants with surgical conditions. There is also an active neonatal transport team which transports sick neonates under the medical direction of the neonatologist.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Janeway Hospital provides care to all critically ill newborns across the province and is highly active in teaching and education (both didactic and through simulation) of Memorial University’s Medical Students; Pediatric Residents as well as the entire Interdisciplinary Team.  



There is support for candidates who wish to pursue a research focused career through The Janeway Research Unit and opportunities exist for those interested in a Patient Safety/ Quality Improvement focus.

Round trip airfare, licensing fees related to the locum services will be provided. Accommodation and car rental will be provided for external locums for a specific amount of time.

The full time Neonatologist would join an Alternative Funding Plan with the group.


Start Time

A February and March locum is urgently being recruited, the duration of locum is negotiable.

For a candidate interested in a full-time position a start date can be discussed.



All candidates must be eligible for licensure in Pediatrics with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
