Physician Leader, Medicine Programs - Geriatrician

As a Centre of Excellence, it provides a full complement of subspecialty staff to support a number of regional tertiary care programs, including cancer, cardiac, child and adolescent mental health, and thoracic.

PURPOSE:

The Physician Leader, Medicine Programs collaborates and works in partnership with the Medicine Program Director, Vice-President and other members of the leadership team (including Chief of Staff, Chief of Medicine, Physician Leader, Quality & Patient Safety, Managers, Coordinators, Resource Nurses) to ensure implementation of the program’s vision and goals, through team work and the effective and efficient utilization of resources within the program. The physician brings medical expertise to the program and provides leadership focusing on patient care, safety, resource utilization, budget and quality outcomes within the Medicine Programs.                                                                                    

REPORTING:

The Physician Leader of Medicine Programs reports directly to the Vice President responsible for the Medicine Program for all administrative and program matters. The Physician Leader works closely and collaboratively with the Chief of Medicine, Director of Medicine and other Chiefs of Services, Physician Leaders and Chief of Staff for physician-related concerns and provides regular reports to the Medical Advisory Committee.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT:

Physician Leaders will be appointed for a term of 5 years and the appointment is subject to annual review by the Vice President with the option of an additional term of 5 years if agreed to by both parties. Annual renewal will be dependent on a satisfactory performance, based on the assessment of the Vice President.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have experience, formal medical administrative leadership training, and excellent clinical, leadership and interpersonal skills, including communication, mediation, objectivity and conflict resolution. A time commitment of approximately one day/week to fulfill administrative responsibilities will be required.

Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Geriatric Medicine and hold, or be eligible for, a full independent license by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Preference will be given to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents.

REMUNERATION:​

​Administartive compensation is competitive and clinical practice remuneration will be based on the OHIP fee-for-service model.
