Neurologist - 350 Bed Teaching Hospital
CanAm's client, a large regional teaching Hospital is recruiting for a full-time Neurologist. The department is looking for neurologists with additional expertise or fellowship training in areas such as movement disorders, stroke, MS and behavioural neurology.
The Neurosciences Department at the Hospital is the largest neurosciences department in the province, consisting of neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists and neuro-interventional radiologists. As a critical care and trauma centre, The Hospital is a Maritime referral destination for acute and trauma cases, covering New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia, with a catchment population for the neurosciences department of almost 500,000. The department has affiliations with both the Sherbrooke Medical School and Dalhousie Medical School , with opportunities to be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as research.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting are essential.
The Hospital is a 386-bed tertiary and critical care facility within Horizon Health Network. It is a major referral hospital which serves communities throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia. It is a Level II Trauma Centre which offers tertiary services in neurosurgery, oncology and neonatal care and includes all other major services and subspecialties.
Quality of Life - The city, with adjoining municipalities, has a population of more than 144,000, and was ranked as one of the best Canadian cities for quality of community life. There is an abundance of educational, cultural and recreational opportunities including easy access to warm water beaches of the Northumberland Strait, and also the scenic Bay of Fundy area.
Qualifications - The Department of Surgery requires that its active and courtesy members have passed the examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the examination of la Corporation professionnelle des médecins du Québec.
In circumstances where no Canadian trained applicants are available, the Department will consider physicians with American Boards.
In special circumstances, foreign graduates who qualify for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick will be considered.
Remuneration - Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. However, under special circumstances, with approval from the Department of Health of New Brunswick, a salaried model may be available. This is based on qualifications and experience. On call and out-of province remuneration is fee-for-service. Specifics regarding expected remuneration can be provided at the applicants request.
