Vascular Surgeon Eastern (Atlantic) Canada
The hospital is a designated campus of the Dalhousie University Post Graduate Medical Education Program and affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), invites applications for a Vascular Surgeon. The hospital is the largest multi-facility regional health authority in the province and serves a population of 200,000 in the southern part of the province. The flagship hospital has more than 20 areas of specialty medicine and surgery and is supported by a vast array of research, education, health promotion activities and community partnerships.
The Department of General Surgery consists of 7 general surgeons who participate in a collegial call group. Subspecialty interests include thoracic, vascular and hepatobiliary surgery as well as critical care and breast health.
The Department has a good working relationship with the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. Endovascular procedures are regularly performed by Vascular Surgeons and Interventional Radiologists and are expected to increase in number. The successful candidate will have experience in these techniques as well as expertise in advanced peripheral reconstructive procedures.
Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province and hold specialty certification in General Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or American Board certification. Recognized formal certification or special competency training in peripheral vascular surgery is required. Formal training in endovascular techniques would strengthen the candidate’s application. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the teaching program and will be eligible for an academic appointment.
